Dear Parent/Guardian, 

Summer Term 2010. 

The Summer term is always a busy one and we hope that your children will enjoy the opportunities. 

Literacy & Numeracy - This term we shall be revisiting many of the areas that have already been introduced in Maths during the two previous terms and English units will include Adventure and Mystery, Familiar settings, Information texts and Performance Poetry. 

Geography - We will be studying Geography centred on our local area and hope to invite a local resident to focus on his memories of the landscape pre- Abbots Farm Junior School and others to explain their jobs on our estate.  Both classes will also be walking around the area to look at landscape, housing and local services.  This will be linked to Art work and Literacy. 

RE – We will be having a visit from a Quaker who will tell the children about their beliefs and traditions. 

Science - Science modules will focus on plants and growth, as well as rocks and minerals. 

ICT - We shall continue the work already started in ICT, using text and graphics, learn how to e-mail and use a simulations program which uses Maths and Geography skills. 

Design Technology - Children will be designing pneumatic monsters in Design Technology.  They will also have the opportunity to work with clay later in the term.  In Art, they will be drawing and painting landscapes. 

Homework will continue to include Maths, Spellings and learning their tables. Please would you time and sign your child’s homework.  

Finally, although many children are reading at home, some still are not.  Reading is a key to all learning and reading with your child also improves quality 1:1 time.
